All of us at Hugessen find it personally disturbing and saddening to see the events unfolding in the US and here in Canada, and to be reminded that racism in its many forms remains a significant challenge here in Canada and around the world. It is a painful reminder that we still have a long way to go.

At Hugessen we believe in the principles of fairness and equal opportunity for all. We decry the active and passive forces at work that remain in the way of justice for all. We do take solace and are encouraged by the many voices for positive change that we hear around us. That is the path that we at Hugessen choose. One of Canada’s most famous authors expressed our view quite elegantly: Racism is a refuge for the ignorant. It seeks to divide and to destroy. It is the enemy of freedom, and deserves to be met head-on and stamped out. Pierre Berton, author

We will be making a donation to the Canadian Race Relations Foundation and we will continue with our commitment to build upon our efforts in the areas of unconscious bias and diversity training for our full team to ensure we lead and model what we wish to see in the world.
